Watch winder questions, answered.
What is a watch winder and how does it work?
A watch winder rotates a compatible automatic watch in timed cycles while it is off your wrist. It is a convenience, not a requirement. Read our complete guide to watch winders for the mechanism, use cases and compatibility checks.
How much is UK delivery and when will my order arrive?
Processing time: 1 to 2 days (Monday to Friday). Transit time: 7 to 10 days (Monday to Friday). Total estimated delivery time: 8 to 12 days (Monday to Friday). Standard UK delivery is £2.95. See our shipping policy for full details.
Do I need a watch winder for an automatic watch?
Not necessarily. An automatic watch can stop when it is not worn; a compatible winder is a convenience if you prefer it to stay running between wears. Check your watchmaker’s guidance before using one. Our watch winder guide explains the basics.
How long should I leave my watch in a watch winder?
There is no universal time for every automatic movement. Use the winding direction and turns-per-day guidance for your exact calibre, and check that the selected winder has a compatible programme. A winder is optional: if your watch stops between wears, follow its maker’s instructions to wind and set it again.
Can a watch winder be used for quartz or hand-wound watches?
No. These winders are intended for compatible automatic movements. Quartz watches do not use a mechanical rotor, while hand-wound watches need winding by hand.
What direction and turns per day should I set?
There is no reliable setting based on the brand name alone. Find the exact watch model or calibre and use the winding direction and turns-per-day guidance supplied by its manufacturer. Then check that the winder option you choose has a compatible programme.
Will this winder work with my watch?
Compatibility depends on both the movement’s winding requirements and the watch’s physical fit on the cushion. Compare your watchmaker’s instructions with the selected winder’s programmes and dimensions. Ask us if you need a product measurement.
How many watches can a winder hold?
The number of winding positions differs by model and sometimes by variant. Storage spaces are not the same as powered winding positions. Check the exact product page before ordering.
